The Barbershop Harmony Society is seeking a Marketing Intern in the social media and public relations areas to handle the following job responsibilities:
- Recently, the Barbershop Harmony Society entered the world of social media with presences on FaceBook (www.facebook.com) and YouTube (www.youtube.com). The company is increasingly mentioned on social networking sites like Twitter (www.twitter.com). Also, the Society has launched a new blog (www.barbershopHQ.com). The challenge is how to maximize the effectiveness of these initiatives and opportunities. This individual will look for and recommend ways to build the Barbershop Harmony Society viewership, presence and image in the evolving world of social media. This individual will also have the opportunity to act on his/her recommendations by seeding the social media environment as appropriate.
- The media community that follows the Barbershop Harmony Society is constantly changing. New journalists enter the scene; publications come and go; media outlets change their definition of what they consider newsworthy. Working in concert with the Barbershop Harmony Society’s Director of Marketing and Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator, this individual will assist in increasing the effectiveness of the Barbershop Harmony Society’s media outreach efforts by identifying outlets, blogs, etc. that can add to the Barbershop Harmony Society’s overall media coverage in a positive way. He/she will also work directly with the media outlets to determine the types of information they need. This person will have the opportunity to write releases and pitch stories to members of the media.
- Currently in a college-level marketing or communications-related curriculum
- Current knowledge and experience with social media
- Strong verbal and written skills
- An eye for detail
