Reports to: Director of Education

Classification: Exempt

Job Summary: Plan activities and determine methods and procedures to insure specific goals and objectives for Society music and education programs. Function as a team member in the music department to assist in planning, design and implementation of the department’s annual work plan. Travel extensively to execute the work plan.

Internal Relationships:

Maintains cordial working relationship with all staff, Society members, and the Society Board of Directors.

External Relationships:

Maintains cordial working relationship with all vendors, affiliates, the Harmony Foundation, vocal music organizations and other groups related to Society music education and service needs.

Required Qualifications:
  • Membership in the Barbershop Harmony Society.
  • Bachelors degree in Music or Education.
  • Experience as a Music Educator.
  • Strong background in music theory.
  • Proficient in using “Finale”.
  • Experience in curriculum development and implementation.
  • Excellent computer, writing and teaching skills.
  • Desire and ability to travel frequently.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Possess excellent barbershop arranging skills.
  • Experience in providing music activities for youth.
  • Proven success as a director of a barbershop chorus.
  • Experience as a quartet and chorus coach.
  • Experience in design and authoring of computer based training.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Edit BHS music publications
  • Assess unpublished barbershop arrangements for entry into the Society Music Library.
  • Develop and conduct music activities for youth and music educators.
  • Develop and conduct quartet and chorus development workshops.
  • Assist in curriculum development and implementation for Society education programs.
  • Travel to various districts and affiliate countries to facilitate the Society’s mission statement.
  • Assist with the planning and administration of the Society’s annual Harmony University.
  • Maintain Music Educator sections of the Society website.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Education.

Performance:

Performance achievement for all tasks and assignments is assessed using annual performance evaluations.
