Alexandria Harmonizers to perform with Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth!Posted on
After much anticipation, the Alexandria Harmonizers are excited to release the following announcement:
The producers of “I Am Harvey Milk” have announced that the Alexandria Harmonizers are their choice to serve as the chorus in the DC premiere of the modern oratorio at the Strathmore Music Center, April 23 & 24, 2016. The Alexandria Harmonizers will be performing along with the National Philharmonic Orchestra and Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth.
In 2013, acclaimed composer, producer, and performer Andrew Lippa wrote I Am Harvey Milk, which tells the story of San Francisco city supervisor Harvey Milk, a high-profile gay politician who was assassinated in 1978. Mr. Lippa himself will be performing the lead role in the Washington production.“The decision to invest in producing this monumental work proclaims a true ‘coming of age’ for Strathmore after a decade of programming,” said Strathmore CEO Eliot Pfanstiehl. “We’ve become well-known in the Washington region for the quality of our spaces. Now, Strathmore will be recognized for our bold artistic voice as well.”
To make sure it has the full complement of voices required to perform this monumental and innovative work, Alexandria Harmonizers Musical Director Joe Cerutti, Jr., will soon announce auditions for additional local singers to be part of the chorus for the Strathmore production. “The Harmonizers are deeply honored to have been chosen for this socially and artistically important production,” Cerutti commented. “We’ll be bringing our signature musical precision and onstage professionalism to this event, and we look forward to including new male singers in our ranks as part of the preparation.”
