2017 Youth Barbershop Quartet Contest
A little bit of harmony. A huge world of fans.
Four men, singing a cappella barbershop harmony, in front of an audience. That’s all it takes to get started in a fun and exciting form of music that can take you literally around the world and change your life forever.
The 2017 Youth Barbershop Quartet Contest will be bigger than ever, easier to enter, and include more ways for more singers to share in the excitement of our biggest annual event.
ALL youth quartets will be invited to the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Convention held in Las Vegas, July 2-9, 2017.
Twenty-five youth quartets spanning a range of ages and experience will be invited to compete in the finals, and the remaining quartets will all be invited to participate in an honor chorus that will learn more about barbershop craft and perform for various opportunities throughout the convention week, including a performance during the chorus contest on Friday. Click here to see more convention information as it becomes available.
All youth quartets can apply for funding to help offset their expenses!

Video entries will be accepted between the dates of September 1, 2016 – March 31, 2017.
Invitations to compete in the finals will be issued by April 30, 2017.
To encourage a range of ages and experience, invitations to the finals competition will apportioned as follows:
Additionally, three at-large invitations will be issued by the CEO. In order to be considered for a CEO invitation, a quartet must write or record their compelling reason(s) for being invited to compete and send them to firstname.lastname@example.org by April 15.
Youth quartets are still encouraged to perform at their District events. Quartets choosing to participate in an event where they are scored by a panel of BHS certified judges may submit that video, along with their scores, as their entry for participation in the YBQC program. Those live scores will count as their video qualification scores and the performance will not be reviewed by a second judging panel.
This process removes the need for a qualifying score, since we will simply be inviting the highest scoring quartets in each category. We will not award district championships. Districts, chapters, states, and independent festivals are welcome to award youth champion titles as they see fit, but they will have not have any formal bearing on the official YBQC competition.
All quartets will be offered scholarship assistance when they accept the invitation to compete in the contest or perform in the youth honor chorus. Quartets (or individuals within quartets) that qualify to compete in both the regular and youth competitions will be allowed to compete in both, but will not be eligible to apply for scholarship funds.
