Atlanta- GA (JUNE 9, 2011) – Multi-platinum recording artist Drew Lachey will host “America Sings,” an eight-night summer series that will premiere on GMC, America’s favorite network for uplifting entertainment, on Wednesday, June 22 at 9 p.m. ET.
Hosted by Drew Lachey, “America Sings” features videos of singing groups unlike any you have seen before. Over 100 singing groups from across North America compete to win America’s vote and a chance to win $10,000. Each week, Lachey shines the spotlight on new videos submitted by singing groups ranging from a capella, barbershop, doo wop, flash mobs, gospel and more. The show’s casting team goes behind the scenes to interview the singing groups and tell their inspiring stories. Then, they hit the streets to get people from all walks of life to sing one classic song that will air as a compilation in each episode.
In the premiere episode, we meet a singing group that formed inside one of the world’s most dangerous maximum security women’s prisons and a flash mob choir that takes over a shopping mall singing “Hallelujah” in a way you have never heard it sung before. The man-on-the-street compilation of “We Are Family” is sure to entertain.
It is up to the television audience to decide which singing group will win $10,000. The singing groups with the most votes will be featured in the special season finale. The group with the most votes overall wins $10,000. Television audiences can cast their vote at www.watchgmctv.com/sing.
