LiveWire brings you a quick read of current and upcoming activities and programs of the Barbershop Harmony Society. We hope you'll share this information with your chapter, quartet and district to help all Barbershoppers get the most from the barbershop hobby.

Register Your Chapter for the 2010 Singing for Life Project!

If we told you that you and your chapter had a chance to save lives, would you take it? May 2010 offers you the chance to do just that! After a successful two years, with collecting more than 4,500 units of blood and saving approximately 13,500 lives, the Society has decided to continue this project, hoping for an even more successful year!

If your chapter is new to Singing For Life, please go to the SFL website to read the FAQs and Project Chairman Job Description. After choosing a Chairman for your chapter, you're ready to register using the following information:

Username: BARBERSHOP
Password: HARMONY

(Both are in all capital letters.)

Upon registering, a member of the Society Marketing and PR Committee will call you within approximately one day to help you get started.

If your chapter has taken part in Singing For Life before, THANK YOU! Please choose your Chairman and register again!

HQ Tours Available during the Sweet Adelines Convention!

Will you be in town next week for the Sweet Adelines International Convention and Competition? If so, come on down to the Barbershop Harmony Society's headquarters building located a few blocks from the Sommet Center (event venue):

Tours will be offered Oct 19-23 from 10am - 3pm on the hour. The last tour begins at 3pm.

HQ is Hiring!

The BHS Education Department needs another full time music specialist.  This person will fill the bill as Music Publications Editor and Education Specialist. 

DUTIES:

  • Edit BHS music publications
  • Assess unpublished barbershop arrangements for entry into the Society Music Library
  • Develop and conduct music activities for youth and music educators
  • Develop and conduct quartet and chorus development workshops
  • Assist in curriculum development and implementation for Society education programs
  • Travel to various districts and affiliate countries to facilitate the Society's mission statement
  • Assist with the planning and administration of the Society's annual Harmony University
  • Maintain Music Educator sections of the Society website
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Education

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Membership in the Barbershop Harmony Society
  • Bachelors degree in Music or Education
  • Experience as a Music Educator
  • Strong background in music theory
  • Proficient in using "Finale"
  • Experience in curriculum development and implementation
  • Excellent computer, writing and teaching skills
  • Desire and ability to travel frequently

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess excellent barbershop arranging skills
  • Experience in providing music activities for youth
  • Proven success as a director of a barbershop chorus
  • Experience as a quartet and chorus coach
  • Experience in design and authoring of computer based training
