**Retraction**
Due to unforeseen circumstances, an article in last week's issue of LiveWire was released without review by headquarters management, and it contained this factually erroneous text: "Chorus fined $30,000 for Downloading!! Don't Let This Happen To You!" One of our choruses has reportedly been fined for not controlling the downloads of MP3 files from their website..." We regret that this information was included in an item about the Society-endorsed chapter management suite from Groupanizer.com. Headquarters staff is unaware of any such fine being levied against a Society chapter, although one chapter was recently assessed a fee of more than $2,000 for copyrighted music that was made available to the general public via their website.
Please remember that most of your chapter's performances and even most of your learning tracks contain copyrighted work. Please ensure that all music on your website is either cleared for public distribution or is kept behind a password-protected firewall--and please track all downloads. Groupanizer provides one excellent method to distribute and monitor learning tracks online. Other methods can be equally valid.
The Groupanizer suite of tools remains heartily endorsed by the Society and by dozens of satisfied chapters. However, the Society does not endorse the "$30,000" figure.
We apologize for the confusion and will ensure that all editions of LiveWire are thoroughly reviewed and fact-checked in the future. |
Your Input is Requested in a Poll Regarding Proposed 2-Year
Chorus Rotation Plan
At the Society's request, members of the Society Contest & Judging Committee (SCJC) have been investigating an idea that would nearly double the number of choruses able to compete on the international stage. The most talented Society choruses would be divided into two equal pools that would compete on alternating years, with additional slots being filled by many choruses that are currently "on the cusp" of qualifying for international competition. This idea has been proposed by multiple sources, and after in-depth research, it is now ready to present to the membership. Please click DETAILS for a complete explanation of the proposal.
To read what others are saying and join the discussion click BLOG. Your input is valuable, and you are invited and encouraged to participate in a 10-minute SURVEY (open to members and affiliates only). Please complete the survey by October 15. Thank you!

Preview exciting newly-published arrangements for your chorus or quartet with the new Music Premiere 2010-B, now available at Harmony Marketplace. The packet contains six individual singable songs representing a nice diversity (most are contestable), plus a demo CD with a full quartet performance of each song. Learning CDs are available containing each of the four parts for these arrangements, and can be purchased separately.
This week's feature songs:
I Don't Know Why A catchy toe-tapper from the pen of Mel Knight, this piece swings smoothly from start to finish, featuring a lyric lead line.
I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter Arranged by Jim Khalke, this is actually two songs in one! Two different endings allow it to be a contest version and a jazzy show-appropriate tune.
Other songs in the 2010-B Premiere Series:
Among My Souvenirs Bring Back Those Good Old Days Who Put the Bomp (in the Bomp Ba Bomp Ba Bomp)? Have a Little Talk With Myself
