For the majority of our chapters and districts, a board meeting usually does not consist of more than a dozen members. Using the “Robert’s Rules of Order: Small Boards” approach may help eliminate some of the formality that could hinder the business of the chapter or district.

Required annually for all BHS Chapters, a reviewer or reviewers submit to your chapter board of directors for review. After completed and review by your chapter board of directors, the form should be uploaded to your chapter profile in Member Center under “Financial Filings”. As a reminder: this is NOT an audit. Reviewers can be members of your chapter or not, but should not be your chapter treasurer or a member of the board of directors.
All United States Chapters, Districts and Subsidiaries (Harmony Brigades, etc.) must report to the IRS by May 15th, each year. Failure to file can result in financial penalties or loss of nonprofit status (or both). Loss of nonprofit status would cause all receipts to become taxable and any donations to the chapter ineligible as a charitable donation. Please ensure that the appropriate filing is sent to the IRS by May 15th and reported in your BHS Member Center Chapter Profile
All non-profit entities, regardless of size is to file an annual return by using one of the following:
Form 990‐N (electronic filing only—not a paper form) for organizations with gross receipts of $50,000 or less
Form 990‐EZ for organizations with gross receipts less than $200,000
All Canadian Chapters that are organized as not-for-profit corporations, are tax exempt. It is crucial that Chapter Treasurers and Secretaries work collaboratively to keep the chapter fully compliant with all applicable laws, regulations, rules and guidelines.

Application for Show Clearance SOCAN License (Canada)
This form should be completed prior to your chapter show. Section 1 is completed before the show and is sent to your District Secretary for approval and processing. After your show, Section 2 and 3 should be completed and sent directly to SOCAN. Check with your District Secretary for more information.
This form should be completed annually (at the end of the year) and mailed directly to the Barbershop Harmony Society HQ. If payment is necessary, please make checks payable to “Barbershop Harmony Society”. If no payment is required, you can email this form to email@example.com
