Sweet Adelines International Harmonizes Denver For Arts Week

Tulsa, Okla., Sept. 21, 2012 – Nearly 6,000 a cappella vocalists from around the world will congregate in Denver for Sweet Adelines International’s 66th annual Convention and Competition. Attendees will unite for competition, education and exhibition during the week of Oct. 29-Nov. 3 at the Pepsi Center and the Colorado Convention Center (CCC). Each day contains music, shopping and entertainment for all ages. All competition concerts are open to the public; individual tickets can be purchased at the CCC, Oct. 29-30, and at the Pepsi Center, Oct. 31- Nov. 3.

The convention commences on Monday, Oct. 29, at 9:00 a.m., with Harmony Bazaar exhibits at the CCC. Dozens of vendors will be showing off a variety of merchandise including apparel, accessories, cosmetics, jewelry, ornaments, skin-care products, plus much more. Sweet Adelines International’s sales department will be on hand with the latest items such as learning tracks, sheet music, the commemorative 2012 Denver Convention charms and many other products that music lovers wouldn’t want to live without.

More than 65 quartets and 40 choruses are perking up their barbershop chords and will heat up the Pepsi Center stage for five days of exciting and awe-inspiring competitions. The world’s best small and mid-sized choruses kick-off competition week with Sweet Adelines International’s Harmony Classic Contest at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30.

The international quartet semifinal competitions will open on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 10:45 a.m. The top 10 quartets return for the finals on Friday, Nov.2, beginning at noon. The 2012 International Champion Quartet, MARTINI, will relinquish their crowns to one winning quartet. The chorus semifinal competitions open on Thursday, Nov.1 at 10:45 a.m. and only the top 10 best choruses will reach the finals on Saturday, Nov.3, beginning at 3:00 p.m. The 2012 International Champion Chorus, Melodeers, will hand over the title to the 2013 champion. On Friday morning, thousands of singers will assemble outside at the Pepsi Center for a spectacular Mass Sing performance in honor of the city of Denver. Members of the community and media are invited to join Sweet Adelines International members, friends, family and fans.

Mass Sing begins at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, Nov.2. This is a free event open to the general public. The final day of competition features the youngest singers of Sweet Adelines International who are eager to expose their talent in the 2012 Rising Star Quartet Contest scheduled for Saturday, Nov.3 at 9 a.m. This annual barbershop contest offers an avenue for members aged 25 years and younger to compete with 17 Rising Star quartets from across the country as well as Canada and New Zealand. The 2012 Rising Star Quartet Champion THE FOURCE will relinquish its title to the winning quartet.

All competition sessions are open to the public. Tickets may be purchased at the Sweet Adelines International ticket office in the CCC beginning Monday, Oct. 29, at 9:00 a.m. and at the Pepsi Center starting on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Individual tickets range in price from $10 for students up to $45 for an adult ticket per competition session.
