ROAD TRIP TAKES COLLEGIATE TROPHY IN BARBERSHOP CONTEST

DENVER, Colo. (July 7) — Road Trip took the gold in today’s Bank of America Collegiate Barbershop Quartet Contest held in conjunction with the Barbershop Harmony Society’s 69th annual convention and contests.

The quartet from City University of New York and Whittier College in California beat out a field of 23 other collegiate quartets from Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., and Canada. Members are: tenor Larry Bomback; lead Anthony Colosimo; baritone Sam Papageorge, and bass Joseph Eckert.

Other medalists include:

Second place: The Crush. Members are: tenor Matt Gray; lead Patrick Headtler; baritone John Brockman; bass Paul Tabone. They are students at California Polytechnic State Institute and Pepperdine University.

Third place: Last Minute. Members are: tenor Arjun Chandy; lead Greg Owens; David Webb; bass Sam Lowrance. They are students at University of North Texas and Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas.

Fourth place: On Demand. Members are Tenor Paul Saca; lead Shawn Thomas; baritone Jamie Breedon; bass Amos Velez. They are students at Jacksonville Community College; Cuyahoga Community College and DeVry University.

Fifth place: The Goods. Members are tenor Mark Lewis; lead Theo Hicks; baritone T.J. Poliskie; bass Kyle Kitzmiller. They are students at Ball State, Anderson and Purdue universites.

Like their counterparts in the Society's regular quartet contest, these groups have come through qualifying competitions to earn a spot in the finals. Medals and trophies await the top five finishers.

The college quartet contest is judged under the same rules and criteria as regular Society quartets in international competition. Previous collegiate champions have enjoyed touring careers and continued to be active in the barbershop world. Vocal Spectrum, the collegiate winner from 2004, won the gold in the 2006 regular contest, becoming only the second quartet to achieve such a feat. The 1996 collegiate champion—Four Voices—won the gold in the 2002 regular contest, and was the first-ever former collegiate champion to do so.
