BARBERSHOP HARMONY SOCIETY ELECTS ALAN WILE TO BOARD
Nashville, TN. The world’s largest all-male singing society elected Alan Wile of Arlington, Virginia, to its board of directors for a three-year term beginning in 2008.
Wile will help guide strategic planning for the Barbershop Harmony Society, a non-profit organization of 30,000 male close-harmony singers in the United States and Canada. He will serve a three-year term, representing the 128 chapters in the Society’s Mid-Atlantic and Seneca Land districts, beginning Jan. 1, 2008.
Wile is a retired intelligence officer serving in the U.S. Navy and at the Department of State for 40 years. He served as intelligence officer and recorder for the Chief of Navel Operations Executive Panel Advisory Committee where he arranged for intelligence briefings and obtained materials needed by committee members and staff. The committee was comprised of civilian/non-government scientific and technical businessmen, academicians and 3-star navel warfare specialists.
In his barbershop life, Wile has participated in many barbershop activities on the local, regional and national level. He joined the Society in 1981 as a member of the Aloha Chapter and performed in shows at the Pearl Harbor Navel Base in 1981 and 1982. He has served as president of the Alexandria, VA, chapter as well as filled many other officer and committee positions for the chapter over the years. He has performed in international barbershop competition with the Alexandria Harmonizers 14 times since 1990, helping the chorus win two gold, one silver and six bronze medals.

He has also served in a dozen district positions and on several national committees. A life-long singer and musician, Wile has participated in college, community and military music groups including the Diplomatic Brass ensemble at the Department of State. He is an accomplished tuba player and has been an enthusiastic member of the TubaChristmas shows in Alexandria from 1989 to 2007.
Wile holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Rochester in New York and a master’s degree in systems management from the University of Southern California.
