Nashville, Tenn. (March 28, 2008) --- Nashville Mayor Karl Dean has issued a proclamation making the week of April 7, 2008 “Barbershop Harmony Week”.     The Mayor will present the official proclamation to The Barbershop Harmony Society in recognition of the Society’s 70th Anniversary on April 11.

The proclamation recognizes that “The Barbershop Harmony Society is dedicated to sustaining and preserving an American tradition of a distinct style of vocal music, encourages harmony amongst all people of the world through the universal language of music, promotes musical education through music scholarships and other means and is engaged in laudable civic service and enrichment of our cultural life through the fostering of traditional values in entertainment and community endeavors all across America.”

Ed Watson, CEO of The Barbershop Harmony Society stated, “We are gratified that Mayor Karl Dean recognizes the considerable impact the Society’s work has made on the lives of people everywhere and has given Barbershop Harmony its own week.”

Mayor Dean said, “Nashville is known as Music City and is a great city ….. and the Barbershop Harmony Society’s presence in Music City exemplifies our best attributes.”

This honor reinforces the reputation of The Barbershop Harmony Society as the world’s largest all-male singing organization in the world with 30,000 members.    It is the premier organization for men who love to sing and brings men together in harmony and fellowship.
