The Vocal Majority Chorus won a CARA in 2004 for Best Barbershop Album (“VMX”) and earned runner-up status in the 1998 CARAs with “How Sweet the Sound”. The CARAs are presented by the Contemporary A cappella Society of America in recognition of the best recorded a cappella produced within a calendar year. This year, CARAs were awarded in 29 categories, including rock/pop, jazz, humor and holiday. Several barbershop harmony groups have won awards, not only for barbershop, but also for jazz, humor and holiday recordings since the CARAs began in 1992. Nominations for CARAs, submitted by a cappella fans and performers, are judged by a panel of 30 individuals selected for their experience with, talent in and knowledge of a cappella music. Groups interested in competing for CARAs should visit www.casa.org for instructions.
