No Return Policy for ordered music - as of June 1

Updated: 5/2/2008 4:36:39 PM

Effective June 1, 2008 there will be no returns on published and unpublished music.

It has been the policy for many years that there are no returns on Unpublished Music. This change will affect Published Music. Preview copies are available to assist you and avoid unnecessary purchases of large quantities of music.

What is the difference between published and unpublished music?

Published arrangements

    • Are fully licensed by the Barbershop Harmony Society for printing and distribution to customers.

    • These arrangements are print on demand.

    • Copyright fees have already been negotiated and are paid to publishers when songs are purchased from the Society.

    • All published titles sell at fixed prices.

    • Pre-recorded learning tracks are available for many published titles.

    • Quartets and choruses wishing to obtain and perform music must buy one copy for each singer.

    • To preview: purchase one copy. To perform, you must buy one copy for each singer.

Unpublished arrangements

    • Legal arrangements are managed as part of the Society’s Music Library.

    • Arrangers work collaboratively with the Old Songs Library, which manages copyright clearance on their behalf. Clearance, licensing and payment of fees to publishers and arrangers are managed on a per-order basis.

    • Individual copies are made on order. The purchaser receives an authorization form to duplicate additional copies up to the specified purchased quantity.

    • Fees charged by arrangers and copyright owners vary.

    • Learning media is not available through the Barbershop Harmony Society, but may be available through external sources.

    • To preview: purchase one copy. In addition to the per copy fee shown in the online Music Catalog, there is a $6 processing fee per order (an order equals up to 10 selections). If an arranger fee is shown, it does not apply to the preview copy, but would apply if copies for performing are ordered.

    • Quartets and choruses wishing to obtain and perform music must buy one copy for each singer.
