How do I donate?
The simplest and fastest way to support our work is to use our online portal for a gift via credit or debit card, or ACH/bank transfers. To donate by wire transfer, please contact 800-876-7464.

What payment methods do you support?
At this time, our online platform accepts debit cards and major credit cards. We can also process a donation via wire transfer - directions can be obtained from firstname.lastname@example.org. For more on other types of gifts, please review our publicly availablefundraising policies or contact us at email@example.com. ACH or EFT transfers, Paypal and Venmo are not currently available, but we may add other payment systems in the future.
Can I make my donation by check? Is there a check processing fee?
Yes, you can make a donation with a check, and there is no check processing fee for donations. To pay by check, download and complete the BHS Donor Mail form, make the check payable to Barbershop Harmony Society, and mail to:

How can I make updates to my donation details after I’ve submitted them?
Our customer service team (firstname.lastname@example.org or 800-876-7464) will be happy to assist you in making updates to your donations, including changes to the amount, frequency, BHS program designation, chapter/district gift, or recognition preferences. To ensure that donor designations are paid out in a timely manner, updates to a one-time donation must be requested within 5 business days. Changes to a recurring monthly donation will be implemented for the next monthly cycle.
Can I make monthly payments? How does that benefit me?
Yes, you can easily set up a monthly gift using our online platform. You can set up all your donor wishes at one time and not have to worry about it again unless your wishes change. These can include which impact areas you want to support, how you wish to be recognized, and your chapter/district gifts.
Can I make a gift online along with my dues payment?
We’re looking forward to offering this service in the future, but it is not available now.
What is the purpose of the service fee on the online transaction?
As is typical for online payment platforms and credit card processing providers, donations are subject to a service fee. While you are not required to contribute additional money to cover the credit card processing or transaction fees, we would welcome your additional support this way. About 60% of givers to online platforms help out by donating these fees in addition to their regular gifts. This is never expected, but always appreciated!
How will you provide me a receipt for tax purposes?
Our online payment processing will generate and email you a receipt in a matter of minutes. If you choose to make a payment by mail, we will send you a receipt within 30 days of processing your donation.
Is my gift tax deductible?
The Barbershop Harmony Society is classified by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, and your donation is tax-deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please keep your email donation receipt as your official record. You will receive this upon successful completion of your donation. Outside the U.S., your donation is not deductible, per local jurisdictions—but your generosity is still appreciated! In Canada, you may also wish to consider supporting the work of Sing Canada Harmony - singcanadaharmony.ca.
What is the Society’s Tax ID number?
The Employer Identification Number /Tax ID number of the Barbershop Harmony Society is 39-0926339.
Can I donate anonymously?
Yes! You can be anonymous, meaning we will not include your name and donor information in any recognition lists, and will acknowledge you only as “anonymous”. We will still send you a receipt for your gift and keep a record of your gift. Check the box to be anonymous.
Do you have a employer gift matching program?
Yes! Our online giving platform makes it quick and easy to leverage your employer’s generosity! Check off the “Employer Match” box to see if your employer is one of the 6,000 companies who participate. If so, the site will generate all the appropriate paperwork. You’ll receive an email (at your work address) asking you to complete and sign the electronic application the system has produced on your behalf. Complete the steps and your application will be on its way!
Who can I call to discuss my donation before I make a commitment?

If you have questions about the gift itself—how it will be used, what giving levels make sense for you, how to make a major gift— please contact our team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
SECURITY AND PRIVACY
How are my online payments secured?
Our online processing platform uses industry standard practices, and is PCI Level 1 certified.
What types of information do you collect from donors?
BHS collects the following types of information from donors:
- contact information (name, address, telephone number, email address, etc.)
- giving preferences
- special requests for program information
- information provided by the donor in the form of comments and suggestions
BHS will not share, sell or rent donor information of any sort with any third parties.
The IRS requires that we list contributions totaling $5,000 or more (in money or property) from any one contributor, on Schedule B of Form 990. The Public Disclosure Copy of Form 990, that is available for public viewing and in online sources such as GuideStar, redacts all personal contributor information and only lists total amount of contribution.
BHS uses donors’ information to understand their interests, to communicate with them, and to update them on our plans and activities. Donor information is shared with certain staff, board members, volunteers, and consultants only on a “need-to-know” basis. As a condition of employment, staff must comply with confidentiality guidelines in the Employee Handbook, with consequences of disciplinary action including termination.
From time to time, BHS may recognize donors in certain public-facing communications, including, but not limited to website, convention programs and publications. At the time of a gift, the donor will be given a choice whether and how to be listed.
If a donor chooses to direct a portion of a gift to a chapter or district, the donor can choose to have us share that information with the chapter or district.

Who has access to my donor history?
We understand and honor your desire to keep your personal information confidential. Only staff members directly managing your record for reporting, recognition and donor contact purposes will be able to look at this data. (Mainly our customer service, finance, and development teams.) As a donor, you may choose whether to have your name included on donor lists and public recognition.
Can I opt-out of donor phone calls, additional solicitations and mailings?
From time to time, we check in with donors to thank them for their gifts and see how we can best serve them. You may opt-out of this by checking the box on the online checkout form.
Will my name, contact information, and donor history be shared outside BHS headquarters?
We are required to list contributions totaling $5,000 or more from any one contributor, on Schedule B of Form 990. However, the 990 Public Disclosure Copy, redacts all personal contributor information.
If you choose to designate a portion of your gift to your chapter or district, you can choose for us to share that information with the chapter or district.
Where can I view your financial disclosure statements?

PUTTING YOUR GIFT TO WORK
How will you guarantee that my donation goes to the work that I care about the most?
At the time you make your donation, you may choose among several impact areas that resonate with your interests, or to support our work in general. We will apply your gift to your area of interest. Donations made to support our work in general will automatically be used for the greatest need. Learn more at barbershop.org/support.
Can I allocate a portion of my gift to my chapter or district?
You can direct us to direct up to 85% of your gift to a chapter and/or district. When you complete the donation form you’ll be given a series of prompts to give us the name of your chapter and district, and decide how much you’d like us to send to each. The total can be up to 85% of your gift.
We are delighted to help get your money into your local community, AND, we hope you’ll support the overall work of the Barbershop Harmony.
When will you offer BHS chapters and districts the ability to launch their own fundraising campaigns on your platform?
We have targeted an August launch for the capability to create peer-to-peer campaign “teams.” Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to be a tester/early adopter of this exciting new way to grow relationships with your patrons, friends, and family.
How will you recognize donors for specific programs and gift levels?
From time to time, we will celebrate and honor supporters on websites, magazines, mailings, and events—but you may always opt out of public recognition. Check the box on the online form.
Will the Barbershop Harmony Society continue to honor and recognize 50-year members (Harmony Fellows)?
Harmony Fellows is a long-time BHS program that recognizes your tenured membership in the Society with a special pin, honors you at events, and so on. We absolutely will continue shining a light on our most experienced and loyal singers. Plans are currently underway to do this virtually in 2020 and more updates will be published for 2021 as we get closer to that date!
OTHER WAYS TO GIVE
What is the status of my gifts made through Harmony Foundation?
We appreciate the many people who have supported BHS over the years via gifts to Harmony Foundation International. As we launch a more direct path for your generosity, we wish to be respectful to our HFI colleagues, who continue to provide a conduit for the support of BHS. Thus, we ask that you work directly with your HFI representative on any questions about previous, current or scheduled transactions, including questions about end-of-life gifts, bequests, or gift restrictions.
How may I make a gift in Canada?
