About the BHS Virtual Campus

The 2021 Virtual Midwinter Convention will be hosted on a custom-built BHS virtual campus using an innovative, interactive event platform called The Echo, which was developed by Event Farm and VirBELA.

In the virtual environment, you will be able to create an avatar and interact with other attendees as you would in real life -- just walk up to someone and talk. The application is easy to install and simple to navigate -- you move with mouse clicks or your arrow keys and no special equipment is required.

Getting Started: How to download and login to Virtual Midwinter

So you've registered, now what? On January 28th you'll receive an email inviting you to download the BHS Virtual Campus. This video will show you step-by-step instructions to guide you throught the process of downloading the BHS Virtual Campus, logging in for the first time, creating your avatar, and how you can get assistance if you need help.

How to get around the campus

PRO TIP: Once you have entered the campus, type “/help” in the chat box and a list of commands will appear that can be used while on the campus.

Help Desk

Have questions or technical issues while in the world? Here is how to reach the Help Desk:

Attendees have four different locations to retrieve a Help Desk ticket:

  1. Just outside the Welcome Center in front of the 139th Street Theater.
  2. Inside the Tech Center which is just one floor down from the Tulsa Club Rooftop.
  3. One right outside the Tulsa Club building.
  4. Within your menu at the top left corner, you can select “Tech Support.”

Once you retrieve a ticket, you will see your ticket number and how close you are to being next.

Once your ticket is selected, you will automatically be sent to the Help Desk Center and seated at a Help Desk representative’s table.

After your issue is resolved, you will be transported to the Welcome Area -- not to where you just were before you were transported to the Help Desk Center.

I am logged in but other people can't hear me. What do I do?

Note: It is HIGHLY recommended that VirBELA be used with a headset with a built-in microphone. This reduces noise, echoes, and leads to an overall better audio experience.

  • Check if your microphone is muted. Check both the in-world mute button, as well as any physical mute buttons or switches that might be on your headset.
  • If your microphone is not muted, VirBELA may not be receiving an audio input.
  • Try speaking into your microphone.
  • If your avatar has a speech bubble above their head, this means VirBELA is picking up your audio.
  • In this case, your colleagues may not be able to hear you due to their own sound settings.
  • If your avatar does not have a speech bubble above their head, VirBELA is not receiving your audio. Check your computer’s sound settings. You can check this article on how to check your mic and sound settings.

I am logged in but I can't hear others who are talking to me. What do I do?

  • Check to see if the avatar you are trying to listen to has a speech bubble over their head. This indicates that they are producing a sound output.
  • If their avatar does have a speech bubble above their head and you still can’t hear them, this likely means that your computer’s audio output settings need to be changed.
  • If their avatar does not have a speech bubble above their head, this could indicate an issue with their audio input rather than with your audio output.
