Why is Harmony University being cancelled now?
Belmont is joining the health protocols of other universities to keep both their staff and visitors safe during this COVID-19 health crisis by cancelling all on-site summer classes and events, including this year's HU.
Additionally, welcoming 900 people from many countries to gather is a risk we are unwilling to take in the face of the current pandemic. We feel that this decision is not only in the best interests of Belmont but also for our global population of HU students and faculty.
Can a virtual version of Harmony University be held in 2020?
Now that we have officially cancelled the event at Belmont, our Education team is focusing on Virtual Harmony University, currently being developed for a live, interactive online experience during the week of July 26—August 1, 2020. Once plans are confirmed, all students registered for 2020 will be contacted directly and registration information will be shared more widely by BHS.
Where do I find my order number?
Your order number can be found on the actual ticket (click “Download Tickets” in Eventbrite) or the email confirmation when you originally purchased your tuition.
If I decide to donate all or part of my tuition, when will I receive a receipt or other confirmation?
Donations will be processed after refund requests. You should expect to receive an emailed confirmation of your donation sometime in June.
Is my donation of all or a part of my tuition tax deductible?
Please speak with your tax advisor. Your donation may be tax deductible if you itemize your deductions.
I bought multiple tuitions or add-ons and I’ve received many emails, do I need to fill out the form to be refunded for each order?
Not necessarily. You only need to fill out the form once as long as you choose one option for all the tuitions/add-ons from the original order(s). If you want to choose different options for the tuitions/add-ons from one or multiple orders, you will need to fill out the form for each different option you choose (transfer, donate, refund). If you have multiple fund types (i.e. tuition, private room, t-shirt), please specify in the Notes & Additional Comments which type corresponds to which option (see example below).

I registered with a chorus or quartet. Can I transfer to an individual tuition to HU 2021?
No. The individual chorus and quartet price points are lower than the regular student price because of a negotiated bulk rate. You will only be able to transfer to HU 2021 as a member of your ensemble. If your chorus or quartet elects not to attend HU 2021, you will be able to request a refund or choose to donate your registration fee. Anyone who does not request by May 15th will automatically be refunded.
I registered with a quartet or chorus. Can I join my group to be coached at HU in 2021?
Yes. You can transfer as an entire ensemble. We understand that group members may change in a year, and we will welcome these new people at the same price point.
When will I receive my refund?
All refund requests received by May 15 will be processed beginning on May 18. It may take a few weeks for the credit to appear on your credit card statement.
What happens if I request a refund and the credit card I used to purchase my tuition is no longer valid?
Eventbrite will notify the Barbershop Harmony Society if unable to process a refund and the Customer Service team will contact you to arrange another form of payment.
What if my original payment form is valid, but I want the refund issued a different way?
Unfortunately, we aren’t able to accommodate a request to refund to a different form of payment unless the original form of payment is no longer valid. The refunds are processed automatically by Eventbrite and BHS can only issue exceptions when the initial refund fails due to a no longer valid payment form.
What if I am not able to make a decision by the May 15 deadline?
Purchasers who do not indicate their tuition preference by May 15, 2020 will see an automatic transfer of their tuition to HU 2021 at Belmont, July 25-August 1, 2021.
What if I transfer my tuition to HU 2021 and later I find out that I am not able to attend?
You may still request a refund or make a donation after May 15 and before HU 2021 goes on sale, but refund requests made after May 15 will experience delayed processing. Any refund requests made after HU 2021 registration go on sale to the general public will be charged an administrative fee.
Is the Virtual Harmony University this July the same format as the weeklong Harmony University at Belmont?
No. Online learning is wonderful, but not for everything. Belmont students had classes from 4 to 8 hours a day, for one very intense week. This is simply not practical OR a best practice in an online setting, sitting at a computer monitor for a week straight!
The format for Virtual Harmony University will give you access to our HU Online offerings for the month of July. Think of it like Netflix for barbershoppers. You will also have interactive “live” classes each week that were planned for Belmont but now offered in an online setting including:
- Your personalized learning paths: Choose from Arrangers, Directors, Music Educators, or Leadership paths!
- Everyone in Harmony Virtual Chorus week-long experience with the “Godfather of A Cappella” himself, Deke Sharon!
- Virtual HU Conference with daily live content, including General Sessions, Keynote speaker, and more!
If I decide to use $199 of my paid tuition to attend Virtual Harmony University this July, what happens to the rest of my tuition?
The remainder of your tuition can either be donated or refunded back to the original form of payment. You will be given the opportunity to note your preference on the form.
What happens if I choose to receive a refund now and then I decide I would like to attend Virtual Harmony University?
In order to join us at Virtual Harmony University for the reduced HU Belmont early bird rate of $199, you must let us know your request by the refund deadline of Friday, May 15. Registration for Virtual Harmony University will be $249 for new attendees or those that ask for a full refund and register later.
What happens if I choose to receive a refund now and then I decide I would like to attend HU 2021?
In order to honor the HU 2020 tuition rate for HU 2021, you must make your request to carry over your tuition by May 15. Purchasers who do not indicate their tuition preference by May 15, 2020 will see an automatic transfer of their tuition to HU 2021 at Belmont, July 25-August 1, 2021. Orders that are refunded or donated will be eligible to sign up for HU 2021 at the normal rate when tuition goes on sale, typically in December.
How do I get a refund for my HU 2020 add-on: private lesson/HU t-shirt/private room/show tickets?
Please use the form you received by email to let us know what you would like to do with those additional funds as well. If you purchased a college registration and voice lesson at the same time, that is on one order number. However, if you purchased a registration and then a voice lesson or housing add-on at another time, you will have multiple order numbers. You will need each order number for the refund process in the refund or transfer form.

Absolutely! You will need to fill out a separate form for each different option (transfer, donate, or refund) you choose. If you have multiple fund types (i.e. tuition, private room, t-shirt), please specify in the Notes & Additional Comments which type corresponds to each option. If you need further instructions, please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org and they can assist you with filling out the form.
Example: I have 4 types (2 tuitions, 1 private lesson, 1 t-shirt) and would like 2 to be transferred and 2 to be refunded.
- Complete one form for the 2 tuitions to be transferred to HU 2021. Choose “transfer” and add a note: This is for both tuitions.
- Complete a second form for the add-ons to be refunded. Choose “refund” and add a note: This is for the private lesson and t-shirt.
I'm currently 25 years old and this summer was going to be my last time I could be in the Next Generation Chorus. Can I still be in the Next Gen Chorus next year, even though I will age out?
Yes. In 2021 at Belmont we will welcome 18 - 26 year old Next Gen chorus students. In 2022, we will return to only welcoming 18 - 25 year students.
Will BHS provide reimbursement for airfare?
No, BHS will not provide reimbursement for airfare. Many airlines and hotels are offering flexible refund options at this time due to the COVID-19 situation. Please contact your airline directly to review options.
I had a scholarship for 2020 and paid $50 or $450. Can I be refunded this money I paid?
Yes. They both may be donated or refunded. The half scholarships at $450 can be dedicated to our Virtual HU this July, with the remainder donated or refunded.
I had a Scholarship for 2020. Is that automatically transferred to 2021 Belmont?
We don’t know the answer yet. While we had hoped to provide specific information by April, there are too many details that remain unresolved. All Scholarship winners will be contacted directly by the Music Education team during the month of May, 2020. If you paid $50 or $450 towards your scholarship, you may donate or request a refund.
