Fall 2019 Miller Match Campaign
The Barbershop Harmony Society and Harmony Foundation International are working together with the Miller family this fall to support youth programs, music education, and more: John and Sharon Miller have graciously committed to contribute $1 for every $3 raised at BHS Fall District Conventions, up to $50,000!
"Our gift is intended to strengthen and enhance many of the important BHS programs that enhance and make a difference in people’s lives who come to experience the magic of Barbershop Harmony: healthy chapters, Harmony University, youth programs, musical education," the Millers said. "Let’s nourish this organization and this art form so it can reach more people and enhance more lives."
With your help, that could result in $200,000 for BHS programs for healthy chapters, Harmony University, youth programs, and musical education before the end of Fall District Conventions. Your participation would be greatly appreciated.
Gifts of any size can have an impact:
$30 becomes $40 | provides free educational resources for a music educator to use barbershop in the classroom
$75 becomes $100 | one full day and overnight stay at Harmony University for a music educator or director to have morning to night barbershop education and experiences
$300 becomes $400 |provides training and resource materials through the Leadership Operations Project Team (LOPT) to make a chapter healthier
$750 becomes a $1,000 | a grant to support a Youth In Harmony program to expose young people to the joy of singing barbershop

Healthy Chapter Initiative
All barbershop is local and the success of the Barbershop Harmony Society is dependent on its chapters having the tools, resources, leaders, and music to help it be healthy, happy, and thriving. In 2016, BHS implemented the Healthy Chapter Initiative and has worked with over 100 different chapters to help them along this path. From 2016-2018, we have had 11 new chapters form. We also built a new resource center for chapters to find what they need. Trained leadership facilitators also contribute to Leadership Academies and schools through this program. We have had almost 57 inquiries of starting a new chapter since January of this year!
Reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Your donation helps to ensure that this momentum in new chapter growth, health, and sustainability continues.
BHS Outreach Grants
The Barbershop Harmony Society Grants program is about supporting local communities in driving more impact in their backyard. Outreach is about working with others to promote the power of singing -- while increasing your visibility and influence within your community. The Grants Program also provides education for all participants on effective grant writing, so they can take those skills to other potential funders and foundations in their local area.
Harmony University Belmont Scholarships
The Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) has provided a weeklong educational experience at Harmony University since 1970. This program is BHS’ strongest opportunity for demonstrating to music educators and BS directors the impact and educational effectiveness of close harmony singing, teaching, and performing as done by barbershop singers.
Everyone who attends Harmony University is immersed in a welcoming environment with the best barbershopper minds in the world. People who attend Harmony University meet people from all over the world, learn immeasurable musical and leadership skills they can take back to their community, and are forever changed.
Please consider supporting this program to help more people have this life-changing experience.
Partnership/Advocacy and Music for Schools
Connecting the larger choral ecosystem with the Barbershop Harmony Society means more people know about barbershop and more people are singing barbershop music! This program helps to connect music educators and barbershop hopefuls to the organization, either through free music, reading sessions for music educators, or barbershop performances on a national scale.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will gifts to this campaign count towards HFI donor recognition, i.e., ribbons, seating, etc.?
Unfortunately, no. Only gifts to HFI’s annual fund are eligible for Ambassador of Song and President’s Council donor recognition levels.
Can I utilize Donor's Choice?
Unfortunately, no. Only gifts to HFI’s annual fund are eligible for Donor’s Choice.
My current contributions are already going to help support those programs, right?
Absolutely. But the good part of the problem is that there is more demand for participation than there is funding to support the need.
