It’s as if music, especially the conjoined voices of two dozen young men, transcends the limitations of the spoken word. “It’s my varsity sport, my passion,” Taveras said. “It’s changed everything about my life.” Taveras is a member of one of many barbershop choruses that competed in the Northeast District’s barbershop singing competition at the Rhode Island Convention Center, a two-day event that ended on Saturday.
