Music Educator Professional Development Seminar

January 16–17, 2026 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium

Purpose

  • A two-day immersive learning experience for music educators.

  • Focus: bringing barbershop harmony and contemporary a cappella into the classroom.

  • Inspiration + pedagogy + live performance = practical tools you can use immediately.

  • Up to 18 hours of professional development credit available

Meet the Featured Clinicians

These experts look forward to sharing knowledge that you can apply immediately in your classroom!


Debbie Cleveland – Veteran educator and multiple SAI quartet champion; expert in classroom integration.


Deke Sharon – Heralded as “The Father of Contemporary A Cappella” this performer, arranger, music producer, author, producer and coach is responsible for the current sound of modern a cappella.


Marshall Voit – An accomplished musician and longtime barbershopper, he has a master's degree in choral conducting; he enjoys seamlessly blending rich barbershop harmony in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.



Steve Scott – BHS Director of Music Education; expert in vocal pedagogy and stylistic differences.

10:30 AM–2:30 PM: Youth Chorus Festival – hosted by Deke Sharon; observe student ensembles.

3:00 PM: Deke Sharon Masterclass – reading session, ensemble coaching, and Deke inspiration

7:30 PM: Friday Night Show – best in barbershop and a cappella performance showcase.

11:00 AM: Start with a Tag – Debbie Cleveland introduces the Tag Book for Music Educators

12:00 PM: Choral vs. Contemporary Vocal Technique – Steve Scott explores pedagogical differences
