Update on Harmony Hall

An update on the BHS Headquarters building in Nashville

HARMONY HALL - Nashville

The Barbershop Harmony Society has entered into a purchase agreement with Sanders Carter Development for the property located at 110 7th Avenue North in downtown Nashville, the current home of Harmony Hall.

“Harmony Hall has served as the Society’s headquarters in Nashville for many years and has welcomed members and visitors from around the world,” said BHS CEO Robert Rund. “This decision reflects our commitment to stewarding our resources responsibly and positioning the Society for the next chapter of our mission. Nashville remains a natural home for our organization, and we look forward to continuing to serve our members, chapters, and communities while thoughtfully planning what the next Harmony Hall will look like.”

What This Means for Members

All Barbershop Harmony Society programs, events, and member services will continue without interruption throughout this transition.

The Society expects to remain headquartered in the Nashville / Middle Tennessee region, and we will likely utilize temporary operational space while we carefully evaluate the long-term space needs of the organization.

This transition provides an opportunity to thoughtfully consider how a future Harmony Hall can best support:

  • our members and chapters

  • education and musical programs

  • staff collaboration

  • preservation of the Society’s historical materials

Preserving Our History

The Barbershop Harmony Society’s archives and historical collections are an important part of our identity and legacy. These materials will be carefully preserved throughout the transition, and efforts to digitize historical materials remain a high priority so that our shared history can be more widely accessible to members and researchers in the future.

Looking ahead

While this transition marks the end of an era at our current Harmony Hall location, it also opens the door to new possibilities for how the Society can best support barbershop harmony in the decades ahead.

Additional updates regarding the transition timeline and future headquarters planning will be shared with members as they become available.

Frequently Asked Questions Concerning the Sale

Why did the Barbershop Harmony Society decide to sell Harmony Hall?

Most of the Society’s work today already happens across a distributed team and through digital services supporting members around the world.

When will BHS move out of Harmony Hall?

The timeline will depend on the closing of the transaction and transition planning. We anticipate that the Society will remain in Harmony Hall during the transition period and expect to relocate before the end of 2026.

More detailed timing will be shared with members as plans develop.

Where will BHS operate after leaving Harmony Hall?

During the transition, BHS will likely operate from temporary space in the Nashville / Middle Tennessee area while we carefully evaluate long-term space needs for a future Harmony Hall.

This process will allow the Society to thoughtfully consider how our next physical space can best support our mission and community.

What will happen to the BHS archives and historical materials?

The Society’s archives and historical collections will be carefully preserved throughout the transition.

Protecting and maintaining these materials is a priority, and ongoing efforts to digitize our archives will continue so that the history of barbershop harmony can be more widely accessible to members and researchers.

The decision to sell Harmony Hall is a real estate decision and does not change the Society’s commitment to serving its members and chapters. BHS operations and staff continue to support the mission and community of barbershop harmony.

What will the next Harmony Hall look like?

The Society will take the time to thoughtfully evaluate what type of space best supports our mission going forward. Future facilities planning will consider the needs of our members, archives, staff collaboration, and educational programming.
