THE NEW LOOK FOR #BHSLA2020 INCLUDES:
- Red carpet event and optional black tie gala dinner on Monday evening
- Day-long education sessions and expanded activities on Tuesday
- A new Opening Night Showcase on Tuesday evening
- A re-imagined contest schedule, with all sessions in the Microsoft Theater (home of the GRAMMY, ESPY, BET, and American Music Awards)
- Official afterglow events each night with special guests and a more intimate setting

Week at a Glance
A balanced schedule means you can see it all
All events end earlier in the evening, so you still have time to sing, dine, laugh, connect — and get some rest before diving in again the next day.
The largest event— the chorus contest— will be split over two days, providing everyone a chance to see more choruses while not committing to as long a single sitting.
A black tie gala awards ceremony will honor achievements and landmark service beyond contest results
We’re giving innovators and barbershop legends their proper recognition in a new event, rather than interspersing major awards throughout the contest sessions. New awards are being developed for volunteerism, outstanding achievement in community service, great recordings, and more!
A luxury view for attendees in the best theater we’ve ever had
The superb Microsoft Theater, home to the GRAMMY Awards, defines “state of the art.” Perfect sight lines and perfect sound in an opulent setting worthy of the best singers in the world? Yes, please!
An enhanced competitor experience
A new chorus contest format seeds choruses by qualifying score, and sorts into four separate sessions across two days. Every session features BIG names, so no matter when you go, you’ll witness some of the very best. Up-and-coming choruses get the benefit of always having “big attractions” in the same session, ensuring good audiences for all. In addition, competitors have more chances to see more of the contest, and take part in other activities as well.
Next Generation Varsity events will return to the Saturday time-slot. Those competitors can enjoy all the week has to offer, and educators, peers, and family members can spend the weekend cheering for their young singers.
A show schedule that offers more variety
The AIC Show — the most accessible show for external audiences — moves to a Friday, making it easier to attract new fans. In addition, chorus singers can now enjoy the AIC show without worrying about resting or rehearsing before a contest the next day.
The Opening Night Showcase on Tuesday evening opens the week with a Midwinter-style show that will help everyone get in the mood.
The World Harmony Showcase featuring a variety of performers from around the world (date and time still to be announced) will get its own time slot -- allowing more convention attendees to celebrate our global barbershop family.
